Interviews/Comments on UO
Stratics Thread (October 4, 2006):

Hello,

Many of you may already know me from experiences they’ve had in game or through our support email. For those who don’t, allow me to introduce myself. I’m GM Spada and I am the Lead GM of EA Online CS. I have been with Electronic Arts since September 2001, and I have played UO since December of 1997. I was one of the many who were asked to move to the Redwood Shores campus from Austin Texas and Origin.

Since then I have been a Senior Game Master, an assistant Lead Game Master and now Lead Game Master. I have helped coordinate support for the launch of some of Electronic Arts biggest titles, such as Battlefield 2, Madden, Fifa, NCAA, and soon Battlefield 2142. I take this job extremely seriously, my love for UO over these years has never faltered. I may have played some other games, or not logged in for a few weeks at a time, but I never forgot my roots and the game that started it all. I also take customer care extremely seriously and I want your experiences with the support team to be positive and fun. I have had many ideas in my head since I started with EA on how to improve your perception of UO support, and I’m hoping that over the next few months that the current “image” of UO support will be changed and we begin to see some of the old stereotypes vanish.

I can’t promise that your perception of UO Support will change overnight, and I can’t promise you that a Game Master will come and visit you each time you have an issue. Especially if that issues is addressed in our Knowledge Base. However, I will try to promise you that over the coming months you will see a visible change in the way your petitions are handled and how your in-game troubles are resolved. However, keep in mind that under some circumstances the Support staff may not be able to help you either because of policy or because of limitations the tools we use have.

My main goal here while on the UO Stratics Forums is to listen to your concerns, try to address as many as I can, and provide you with as much insight into how we support UO as I’m allowed. I can’t promise I’ll be able to respond to every CS thread on these forums, but I will try. While the dust settles and some of these changes are made over the next few months please don’t be discouraged, remember that the fun you have in the game is important part and that we are always changing and adapting to your needs when it comes to support.

I hope to see you in-game some time and I hope that your experience with UO Support is a positive and fun one. If you should have any troubles or questions please use the “Contact Us” option at http://support.uo.com.

What Else Have They Done?
- Helped coordinate launches for Battlefield 2, Madden (NFL Football), Fifa, NCAA, and soon Battlefield 2142
- UO: “helped initiate the implementation of the “instance corpses” feature, at its core, this feature was added to the game because the shear amount of reports and the huge impact that “loot stealing scripters” had on the community was out of control. “
